On PS5 and Xbox Series X, the first mode is called “Quality Mode”. The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Dying Light 2 pack three modes to toggle between but Techland failed to detail any of these and what they do. ![]() ![]() I definitely didn't have to do that before.Dying Light 2 has been out for a few days already but if you’re playing the game and don’t know what graphics modes to choose from then we have you covered. I've seen other people reporting similar issues with the same video card.Įdit: Turning off all the in-game Nvidia options seems to have fixed the issue for me. On a side note, I recently tried going back and playing The Witcher III and it is also unplayable due to random frame rate issues. Other, more recent games, including DL2, Halo infinite, FH5, etc. It doesn't matter if I just stand around in the home base, or go out killing zombies, the game starts out fine but the frame rate tanks after about 5 minutes, dropping into the teens. Now, I wanted to go back and finish the game before starting DL2 and the game is unplayable. Never had the slightest hiccup, just buttery smooth. Having played through The Following and the main game to 93%, I've obviously played the game a lot. ![]() I could see kombustor's "available VRAM" count go up a little bit, but not enough to get to 5200 MB. If you're wondering, yes I have tried minimizing all the apps I mentioned, and that didn't help at all (Both in dying light 2 and kombustor). The truth is, some applications don't work as ideally as you'd think, which is 100% the problem of the application admittedly, but if you do want to bypass some of that, clearing VRAM or closing other hardware accelerated apps definitely helps at least somewhat. (Alternative to this is using the restart exe file from CRU.) Closed my browser, discord, steam, and immediately kombustor could allocate it. Other apps are still using VRAM and affecting performance for some reason, which doesn't happen in other games.Įdit: Another example of an application not managing video memory correctly would be MSI kombustor, which on my 6 GB RTX 2060 can't allocate 5200 MB for the "Furmark-Donut-5200MB" stress test if other applications are open. I've been able to replicate this multiple times, open web browser, a bunch of apps, load dying light, and performance tanks immediately near hordes, none of that happens after clearing VRAM. It's clearly not managing VRAM correctly. I can't guarantee that this will last for like 10 hours of continuous gameplay or something, but it sure did help a lot for me. Before doing this, I'd normally see a massive dip to 15-20 fps near some military convoys with large hordes right after opening the game and running to it, but now it's perfectly smooth and it stays that way for a long time even after roaming around a large portion of the map. Launch dying light 2 (Don't open or switch to any other app before doing this)īasically, this completely clears out your currently used VRAM (in hardware accelerated apps, browsers, etc) and allows the game to use the full amount.Click "Exit" on the prompt that appears next.Run "restart64.exe" (This restarts your graphics driver, so you'll see a black screen for a second and then it'll be back to normal). Not sure if OP solved it, but for anyone who comes across this thread, this is what I did to fix this issue (copy pasted from my post on steam community): We do encourage original content, however.
